Koukki app

With the Koukki platform, event organisations plan their temporary staff from behind a desk. But on the day itself the planner is not sitting at a laptop: they are walking the festival site, directing teams and answering staff questions. So we developed a follow-up to the platform: a mobile app that takes the same planning live onto the site.

Challenges

• Reducing an extensive planning platform to what really matters on site, on a small screen and usable with one hand.
• Showing the same data as the platform, without double entry or outdated information.
• Working in the bustle of an event: little time, lots of distractions and users who need to use the app without a manual.

Solutions

• A structure built around the event: from the overview (upcoming, active, completed) to the details of a single event, with positions, staff and documents within reach.
• An interactive map with every position on site, so a festival leader immediately sees where each team is, even on an unfamiliar site.
• Built in Flutter on the platform's existing Java backend: one source of truth for office and site, and one codebase for iOS and Android.

Results

• Planners and festival leaders always carry the current planning with them, without printouts or calls to the office.
• A first version that lays the foundation for further development of the app: the structure and the link with the platform are in place, and new features for the field are added step by step.
• Platform and app grow together: a new backend feature is immediately available to both.
